Valentines Day Cherry Shortbread Hearts

Delicious heart shaped cherry shortbread biscuits which are perfect for Valentine's Day and so easy to make.

You can cut the heart shapes by hand if you are up for the challenge or buy a heart shaped cookie cutter. I bought a set of 5 heart cookie cutters on Amazon for £2.92 and I used the second size cutter which is 2 inches wide.

Serves:  12
Price per serving: 11p
115g Unsalted Butter (at room temperature)
55g Caster Sugar (extra for dusting, optional)
175g Plain Flour
75g Glace Cherries (quartered)

1. Preheat the oven to 170°C/fan oven 150°C/gas mark 3.
2. Cut the butter into square pieces, then put into a mixing bowl with the caster sugar and stir well until blended together.
3.  Add the glace cherries and mix. Next, sift in the flour and mix with your fingers until a dough starts to form.
4.  Gather into a bowl and roll out dough to roughly 1/2 inch thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut your dough into heart shapes, re-rolling left over dough to create more hearts.
5.  Place the hearts on a lightly greased baking tray and bake for 20 - 30 minutes, until golden. Then remove and allow to cool. Giving them a dusting of caster sugar when they have cooled.
The ingredients cost £3.99 to buy at Tesco.
Unsalted Butter - £1.09
Caster Sugar - £1.10
Plain Flour - 40p
Glace Cherries - £1.40

* Costs per serving are worked out from the amount of ingredients used in the recipe, not the price of buying the products. Once you have some these ingredients in the cupboard, they can be used in another recipe.
